La Casa de Buena Salud was established in the early 1970’s by a group of concerned women addressing the lack of accessibility and affordability of prenatal care services in Portales, New Mexico.They began operations from a tiny two-bedroom home.In 1974, La Casa received official documents as a non-profit organization.In 1976, the organization received a $63,000 grant from the Campaign for Human Development United Catholic Conference.In August 1977, La Casa received the first grant from the Department of Health Education and Welfare.Between 1994 - 2001, La Casa Family Health Center has expanded healthcare services to four counties including, Roosevelt, Curry, Chaves, and Lincoln.The health center provides healthcare to more than 15,000 patients.
